Low Side Float Valve Definition

Low Side Float Valve Lies between the low-pressure side of the evaporator and compressor suction line of the refrigeration system. It also regulates the flow of liquid refrigerant to the evaporator. as per the load. It keeps up the consistent fluid level in the evaporator by a float chamber. And, it maintains by opening or shutting off the needle. The liquid refrigerant from the receiver enters the low side float valve. After the process, the vapour refrigerant moves towards the compressor. The rate of vaporisation depends on the load on the evaporator. Hence it also works according to the load.

The float valve is a hollow ball. It is attached to the float arm at one end. the other end of the float valve connects with the needle valve. Float arm of the float valve helps in the movement. And, transmits the movement to the needle valve. It is done to control the flow of the liquid refrigerant. Since the float valve is hollow, hence it floats on the liquid refrigerant in the float chamber.

Low Side Float Valve Working

  • When the liquid refrigerant in the evaporator vaporises, the float ball level in the chamber falls. This makes the float drop and therefore opens the needle valve. Consequently permitting liquid refrigerant from the liquid line to the float chamber. Afterward to the evaporator to compensate for the measure of vapourisation.
  • When the liquid refrigerant reaches a certain level, the float ball level in the chamber rises. This makes the float rise and therefore closes the needle valve. Consequently does not permit the liquid refrigerant from the liquid line to the float chamber

Advantage of Float Valve

The major advantage of the float valve is that it keeps up the consistent liquid level in the evaporator. Under all loading conditions regardless of the evaporator pressure and temperature.
