What is Condenser Coil in Air Conditioner?

Condenser Coil in ac is a device that we use on the high-pressure side of the system. Its capacity is to expel the heat of the hot vapour refrigerant released from the compressor. The hot vapour refrigerant comprises of the heat from the evaporator and heat of compression. First, we remove the heat by transferring to the condenser coil tube walls then from walls to the cooling medium. The cooling medium may be air or water or a combination of the two. The selection of the condenser coil depends upon the capacity of the refrigerant, the type of refrigerant, and the type of cooling medium.

Factors Affecting Condenser Capacity

  •  Material– different material have various capacities of the heat transfer. Hence the size of a condenser of a given capacity can vary by selecting the right material. Therefore higher the capacity of a material exchange heat, the smaller will be the size of the condenser.
  • Amount of Contact: The condenser coil in air conditioner capacity can fluctuate by controlling the measure of contact between the condenser surface and medium. Hence it’s possible by changing the surface area of the condenser and the pace of the progression of the consolidating medium over the gathering surface. The measure of liquid refrigerant level in the condenser additionally influences the measure of contact between the vapour refrigerant and medium. The part of the condenser that we use for liquid subcooling cannot condense any vapour refrigerant.
  • Temperature Difference: The heat transfer capacity depends upon the temperature difference between the condensing medium and vapour refrigerant. Condenser Coil Types

According to the condensing medium, the condenser coil is of three types:

  • Air Cooled condenser- air-cooled condenser is the one in which the removal of heat is done by air.
  • Water Cooled condenser- is the one in which the water is used as the condensing medium.
  • Evaporative Condenser- They use both water and air as condensing medium to condense the hot vapour refrigerant to liquid refrigerant.
