What is Condenser Coil in Air Conditioner?

Condenser Coil in ac is a device that we use on the high-pressure side of the system. Its capacity is to expel the heat of the hot vapour refrigerant released from the compressor. The hot vapour refrigerant comprises of the heat from the evaporator and heat of compression. First, we remove the heat by transferring to the condenser coil tube walls then from walls to the cooling medium. The cooling medium may be air or water or a combination of the two. The selection of the condenser coil depends upon the capacity of the refrigerant, the type of refrigerant, and the type of cooling medium.

How Condenser Coil Works?

The working of the condenser coil might be comprehended by thinking about a straightforward refrigerating framework.

The relating ph outline demonstrating three phases of refrigerant cooling. The compressor attracts the superheat liquid refrigerant that contains the heat is absorbed in the evaporator. The compressor includes more warmth i.e the heat of compression to the superheated vapour. Superheat vapour flows from compressor to the condenser through the discharge line. The condenser cools the refrigerant in three phases

  1. Above all else, the superheated vapour is cooled to the saturation temperature relating to the pressure of the refrigerant. This is appeared by line 2-3. The desuperheating happens in the release line and in the initial coils of the condenser.
  2. The saturated vapour refrigerant gives up its latent heat and condensed to the saturated liquid refrigerant. This procedure, known as condensation, is appeared in by the line 3-4.
  3. The temperature of the liquid refrigerant reduces below its saturation temperature so as to expand the refrigeration impact. This procedure is demonstrated b the line 4-5.

Factors Affecting Condenser Capacity

The capacity of the condenser coil is to transfer the hot vapour refrigerant to condensing medium. It depends upon the following factors;

  •  Material– different material have various capacities of the heat transfer. Hence the size of a condenser of a given capacity can vary by selecting the right material. Therefore higher the capacity of a material exchange heat, the smaller will be the size of the condenser.
  • Amount of Contact: The condenser coil in air conditioner capacity can fluctuate by controlling the measure of contact between the condenser surface and medium. Hence it’s possible by changing the surface area of the condenser and the pace of the progression of the consolidating medium over the gathering surface. The measure of liquid refrigerant level in the condenser additionally influences the measure of contact between the vapour refrigerant and medium. The part of the condenser that we use for liquid subcooling cannot condense any vapour refrigerant.
  • Temperature Difference: The heat transfer capacity depends upon the temperature difference between the condensing medium and vapour refrigerant. Condenser coil ac capacity increases as the heat transfer rate increases because of the increase in temperature difference. We cannot control the temperature difference.

Condenser Coil Types

According to the condensing medium, the condenser coil is of three types:

  • Air Cooled condenser- air-cooled condenser is the one in which the removal of heat is done by air.
  • Water Cooled condenser- is the one in which the water is used as the condensing medium.
  • Evaporative Condenser- They use both water and air as condensing medium to condense the hot vapour refrigerant to liquid refrigerant.
